The NUIFC is built on the strength of our 40 member and affiliate centers and they will be the driving force behind our Census 2020 effort. Our network gives us a foothold in more than 20 states and more than 15 major metropolitan areas. This reach has been expanded through our partnership with the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI), the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH), and the Center for Native American Youth (CNAY), increasing our presence into 33 states and 30 metropolitan areas. These partnerships highlight the NUIFC’s ability to build successful national, regional, and local coalitions and channel the power of Indian Country towards our communities.
To expand our national footprint and guarantee Census coverage throughout Indian Country, the NUIFC is also partnering with the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) and Native American Right Funds (NARF). These two institutions of Indian Country have built up generations of trust with tribal government and officials. Our partnership with these two organizations help us better serve tribal members living in urban areas and create a comprehensive Census network that will cover all of Indian Country. For more information, read our press release on this historic partnership.
We are working closely with a specific 24 member centers, providing them enhanced funding and resources. Many of these centers participated in our successful 2018 Urban Native Vote project and each is a bedrock in their communities which puts them in a fantastic position to serve as hubs for the 2020 Census.
