CONTRACT AMOUNT: $70,000
CONTRACT DURATION: 1 year   


The National Urban Indian Family Coalition (NUIFC) is seeking an experienced strategist who understands disinformation and harmful social media content impacting American Indian and Alaska Native communities, with a particular focus on those in urban areas. This position will develop a comprehensive digital strategy which will include a focus on identifying and combatting disinformation as well as moderating and creating a social media presence for the NUIFC with a specific focus on the 2024 election and our broader civic engagement work. This strategy will focus on increasing the NUIFC’s social media presence across different platforms, such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and others. This position will work with national and in-state partners and disinformation researchers to be an information bridge to our partners.  This position will work closely with the Director of Civic Engagement to develop these strategies. The ideal candidate has experience with organizing or advocacy communications, strong social media familiarity, comfort working with multiple partner organizations, and knowledge of the urban Indian community.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, community-based organizations, and trusted messengers within the urban Native community to directly challenge the spread of misinformation.

  • Community Engagement: Help create feedback loops between the Federation and our communities, so that both can better communicate accurate information. This would include create systems that effectively share news and respond to spreading misinformation.

  • Digital Media Strategy: Create and execute a digital media strategy that promotes the NUIFC’s work, the work of our coalition partners, and elevates information that addresses the disinformation challenge. Works with staff and leadership to implement a social media strategy that promotes our work and the work of our different coalition partners.

  • Analysis and Reporting: Utilize national trend reports on disinformation to discern their relevance and impact on the AI/AN community, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the specific concerns.

  • Rapid Response Management: Provide prompt and insightful guidance to both Federation partners and the AI/AN community during moments of fast-moving news and situations.

  • Support the NUIFC’s Democracy is Indigenous strategic communications: Help spread actionable information and updates from the NUIFC’s DII Civic Engagement work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Competencies

  • A deep understanding of disinformation, its methodologies, and its impact on marginalized communities, with a particular focus on the AI/AN community.

  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge about how to work effectively with social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc. Ability to create social media graphics/infographics.

  • A proven record of being able to work with multiple partners and organizations and the ability to coordinate them around different challenges in our community.

  • An individual that has experience, strong knowledge, and an intimate understanding of Native American culture, issues and urban lived experiences.
